Flat calm, no wind, slight north current, organized weed lines...it looked to be a perfect day, only we were missing one active ingredient... MAHI. We started out trolling, the water is still dirty inshore, so we dropped the lines in after we passed 100 feet. The trolling conditions were great, we got one bonita on the way, way, way back line, poor Will got his arms stretched on that one ! We had three hits on a new lure combination I am developing, I think it's going to work, but the hooks did not stick today so this lure needs some more work. After trolling for half of the trip we set up on a nice weed line and put out 4 lines with live bait, but that didn't raise any interest from the locals ! Tough day but we stuck it out, and the clients appreciated how hard we worked to create a bite for them.

Beautiful day out there today, flat calm. We started out live bait drifting for mahi, but caught a bonita out in 400' of water! We saw some big mahi but couldn't get them to bite, they had seen to many boats already. When we went on the troll, we picked up a mahi and two more bonita on skirted strips.

Sailfish Marina Charters

There's a tropical storm up off of Georgia and when it passed it really stirred up the water here. Between the silted up water and lots of sargassum weed, fishing was tough today. John and his crew stuck it out and they were rewarded by a couple of nice fish, a gaffer mahi and a big barracuda. Guess what's for dinner ??

West Palm Beach Fishing- Trolling

Tough day today, no wind and no current ! Connor had his buddies with him today.  I ran the boat out to 230 feet and started a deep drift for tuna. We had one come up early in the drift and swirl just next to the boat, but no takers on our baits. I ran inshore to 80 feet for reef fish, I could read them on the screen, but nobody was feeding ! I think these afternoon thunderstorms have them off their feed. Next i ran back out to 120 feet and finally we started catching some reef fish. A very slow start but a solid finish, I guess that's the best you can hope for with these conditions !

Flat calm today, very little breeze, and hot ! We decided to skip the trolling today and went directly to deep water drifting looking for blackfin tuna and mahi in 320 feet of water. After an hour with no action I was just about to make a move when the bow rod started screaming. About the same time I see a large Sailfish greyhounding on the other side of the boat ! I was able to run up to the bow, bury the rod tip under the surface and clear the line out from the hull. Our angler Jake was in for a battle because I was fishing for blackfin tuna which can be line shy so I lightened up the leader strength to 30 lb fluro, usually for sails I use 50 lb leader. Forty minutes later we had the fish boatside and we were able to tow it behind the boat until it revived and swam away strong. My angler wasn't so lucky, he didn't have any breakfast, got dehydrated during the fight, so we had to head in. He'll know for next time.

Well today was different, Cass and Thomas brought their boys out and we started by trolling offshore for Blackfin Tuna and Mahi. Very slow... one Bonita  and one missed bite... Ok, lets try try drifting out din the deep for Blackfin Tuna and Mahi.... Again very slow, no bites ! Now I'm getting antsy, so move the boat inshore and try drifting shallower... Game On ! We started getting bites on the bottom rods, catching sand tiles, porgies and grunts. Then the flat line rods start going off, and we are catching Barracudas, and King Mackerel, along with a couple of mystery bites that bit us off! Slow start but we had a great finish, and I guess that's what really counts.

Allan and son joined us today and the Bonita were jumping in the boat on the troll ! Where did the Mahi go ???

Wylie brought his crew out today, no wind and no current made for a beautiful day, but it was tough fishing ! We stuck it out and picked up some Bonita on the troll, and then we got dinner on the drift, catching some extra large trigger fish.

Today was Travis's 13th birthday so Dad took him fishing, makes sense to me ! On the troll we got a monster big Bonita, and then on the drift he got a real nice King Mackerel. A couple of bottom fish and the trip was complete. Beautiful weather today, this trip was a home run !

Karyn found a rainbow and it wasn't even raining ! Drift and kite fishing today gave us a good time with mahi too !!

Ed brought 3 generations out today for a troll and drift fishing trip. We had pretty good luck hooking, them but not so much getting them in the boat. Kate found out not to hit the freespool lever when fighting a big mahi, Luke found out that 25 pound Blackfin tuna will chafe through 30 lb fluro leader! A few heartbreaks and one nice mahi in the boat !

Doug brought his buddies out from Indiana today and we went on the troll in windy conditions. Yep, the fish liked it and we caught some nice mahi on the troll. A big bonita joined the party too !

Brian and Joseph joined us for their yearly trip and Joseph keeps growing... if he keeps this up I'm going to need a bigger boat ! Anyhow trolling and bottom fishing were were good today and the boys had a lot of fun !

Elliot came out with us today and caught his first King Mackerel while kite fishing. He also got a load of reef fish including porgies, triggers, grunts, red grouper, mutton snapper and sand tiles.

John and Matt came out today, we started trolling but it was slow with one missed hit. When we switched to the drift good things started happening with reef fish coming up on the deep lines and King Mackerel on the flat line and the Kite payed off big time with a 35 lb King.

Spring Break. Plenty of action today with Big Bonita's on the troll and some nice reef fish when we were drifting,.

Tom brought out his grandsons for their annual trip and we had a blast. Started out by trolling and we had a Mahi and a Bonita in the first 15 minutes of the trip. We then switched over to the drift and got a bunch of reef fish to round out their dinner plans. Always a pleasure with these guys !

David and his son John joined us today for some trolling and Kite Fishing. No hungry Sailfish were around, but this nice mahi jumped on a skirt and bonita strip when we were trolling !

David came out today with his father and uncle. 
A building weather front kept us on our proverbial toes, but David took it in stride and enjoyed and enjoyed the quick fishing !

John wanted to target Sailfish today so that's what we did !  My first spot, while Paul the mate was putting out the kite and Sailfish baits, I dropped in a bait on wire leader for kingfish and a Sail promptly attacked it. He got all bill wrapped in the leader, we got one good bow in the rod and then he got away. I got back a perfectly corkscrewed leader ! Anyhow a little while later  another Sailfish jumped on a live Goggle Eye and we were off to the races !

Another day with terrible trolling but then super bottom fishing ! I had Greg out with his family and they were a treat. When we went on the drift it took Blair and Brett a few minutes to get the hang of Palm Beach drift fishing, but then it all clicked and they fishing machines !! The mutton snapper was over 9 pounds !

Very cool trip with Rich today, nothing on the troll so we switched over to drift fishing and put the kite up. First up was a very large, very active Sailfish. After a successful release, we had a steady bite of bottom fish including mutton snapper, red grouper, two types of triggers, parrotfish, porkfish, sand tiles, grunts....we were busy !

Amy brought a couple of her friends out today and we really had some fun ! Fish on the troll and bottom fish on the drift, they had lots of action and took home some tasty fillets.

Today was tough, Full Moon tonight and no wind, the ocean was flat like a lake ! Jason, Bryce and Mark hung in there and were rewarded with a couple of kings, a shark, and some reef fish. Back at it tomorrow !

Well what are we going to do when we have to entertain a six year old and two ten year olds..... you got it, take them fishing ! The troll was slow, but we jumped off a Sailfish that everyone got to see. When we went on the drift the boys were able to catch some real nice quality snappers and porgies so everyone went home happy. 

Grace's first saltwater trip ! I think she has the bug !! One small bonita on the troll, so we went drift fishing and had some fun !

Tim and his buddies joined us today and we did everything ! We started out trolling and got some bonitas and a couple of kingfish bite offs. Then we went on the drift and put the kite up in spite of no wind. We released 4 red groupers, a scorpion fish, grunts and a porgy. Then we went back on the troll, high speed this time because by the time we finished drifting I was north of Jupiter. The ride home was uneventful except for the wahoo bite off at 13 knots......some days you just wonder why......

Alex brought the family and the dog out today for some bottom fishing. No wind and very little current made for a slow start when we were trolling, but we were able to liven things up a bit when we started bottom fishing.

Heather wanted to take her 7 and 9 year old sons fishing but was concerned when she booked about sea conditions. I planned a trip fishing the intercoastal waterway and we had a blast !  Nothing big, but non-stop action.

Michele and Dane wanted to go bottom fishing, no Sailfish, no trolling, just bottom fishing...so that's what we did. I ran up north, got on some good bottom and they kept the rods bent for the entire trip !

Greg, Justin and Jerry joined us today, the wind was still blowing and fishing was still difficult, but the boys hung in there and the Red Grouper were biting, we got three in one drift. Too bad the season is closed...how do they know ??? also some bonita and reef fish. !

Lenny and Alain came out today, Lenny has been trying to get out with me since before the whole covid mess and he finally got down here. A windy day made for some tough trolling, we got some bonitas. When we set up on the drift we started doing better, first we hooked up a shark that took a while to come in on light tackle, then a nice king mackerel came up. Reef fish pecked at the baits but because the drift was so fast fishing the bottom was not effective. The gentlemen had a great time and I look forward to their return.

Jake and his family joined us today but windy weather made for a tough trip. We started out on the troll and had a Sailfish hit the strips three times on two separate strips but not get hooked ! We picked up a couple of barracuda and then a large bonita. When we went on the drift and put up the kite we got another bonita and picked up some reef critters. It was fun, but the wind made us work for every fish!

It was Dean's 8th Birthday and he wanted to take some friends fishing, so that's what we did ! First some trolling and then some great bottom fishing on the drift. They had a ball and I had to clean a bunch of fish for dinner !

Drift Fishing West Palm Beach Charters

Kurt and his two wives joined us today for some reef fishing. We started out trolling and got Bonita and a bite off from a King Mackerel, but then switched over to bottom drift fishing and had a lot of fun. A couple of yellowtail snappers went home for dinner and lots of reef fish got released.

Mark joined us today and it was a home run ! We were trolling offshore for Bonita when I noticed there were Spanish Mackerel inshore.... a quick change in gear and we headed in and started trolling Spanish  Mackerel and Bluefish. After a couple of passes we headed back offshore and started drift fishing. Mark caught Amberjack, porgies, grunts, triggers, and other assorted reef fish. In all he caught about 25 fish in today's trip and had a ball !

We went trolling this afternoon on absolute flat seas, the ocean was beautiful. We lost a wahoo when the angler couldn't keep up with it and it out swam the boat and pulled the hook, but a king mackerel soon took his place and joined us in the boat. We followed up with some drift fishing and wrestled with some big sharks on spinning gear with a predictable outcome. We all had a great time and came home winners !

It was 45 degrees this morning and really windy this morning, luckily it was out of the northwest so the seas were not bad. George and his family hung in there and we got a nice king trolling and then went on the drift to catch some reef fish. Beautiful day....but cold !! We had sea smoke on the water when the day started !!!

Floyd and Michael have been out with me before and they usually do well, today was exceptional ! Floyd was celebrating his 90th birthday, so what better way to celebrate than to go fishing.  The bonita and mahi were a warm up, Floyd was able to reel in a beautiful white marlin. I hope I can do this when I'm 90 !! A couple of bottom fish for dinner and we finished up an action packed 4 hour trip !!
